VoIP IP SIP Phone information manuals:
IP Phones, which ones are most widely used?
General comparisons between the top three IP phone manufacturers. The big three SIP IP phone manufacturers are Polycom, making the SoundPoint IP phones, Aastra, with their 675x series SIP phones, and Grandstream, producing their GXP series SIP phones. Each manufacturer offers a line-up of VoIP phones, starting at a basic cost-savings model to their higher end larger feature set phone. In some cases, the biggest difference can be the LED display size, which can be quite easily seen in the 675x series phones from Aastra. Polycom has been around from the early stages of VoIP and captured many early followers' with their Soundpoint 501 phones. These phones are now somewhat showing their age, but many of them are being used everyday and are still sought out, especially in the hosted VoIP market where many hosted providers services are tied to Polycom endpoints.
General notes and comparison points.
Polycom Soundpoints, being somewhat hard to configure, are known for their great sound quality (acoustics) even in their basic models, with even a higher quality sound noticeable in their HD models.
Aastra IP phones have a following with the Asterisk and IP-PBX gurus as they can be more easily configured and tailored to behave in certain ways with presence and other endpoint features (scripts).
Grandstream GXP phones are great value, durable and have one model, the 2010 that has been designed for users migrating form a key phone system.
For comparison pricing (a general scale) for the three are Polycom highest, Aastra second, and Grandstream the most affordable.
All three IP phone companies make high quality desk-sets and offer good general support. Aastra may be a bit stronger in this area, but only by a bit.
